Advocate Award
Description
The purpose of this award is to recognize a school advocate whose
support has maintained an exemplary library program, whose efforts have
improved an existing program, or who has initiated a program where none
existed. The award recognizes those outside the library profession who
play a critical role in the success of school library programs. An
Awards Committee may visit the school or district to substantiate
evidence submitted in the nomination.
Qualifications:
- The award will be presented to a school library advocate who has
demonstrated support for school library programs.
- The advocate must be nominated by a WPSLA member.
- Practicing school librarians are not eligible for the award.
Criteria for Consideration:
- Facilities improvement
- Budget
- Support staff
- Support of professional development opportunities for librarians
- Flexible scheduling implementation
- Adherence to Library Bill of Rights and district selection policy
- Library technology
Application:
Include the following information:
- Nominating WPSLA member's name
- Position
- School
- Address
- Name of advocate nominee
- School
- Address
- School Enrollment
- Number of full-time certified librarians
- Full-time equivalent support staff assigned to library
- Number of volunteer hours per week
- A supportive narrative, not more than 500 words in length. Do not
include photos, newspaper clippings, or other public relations material
Award:
The award shall be a plaque presented at the advocate's school
district's board meeting and $100 to the school library of the
librarian nominating the advocate.
